Dr. Katherine Weintraub, a native of Sarasota, FL, is a passionate performer and educator based in the Tampa Bay area. Recognized by composer Libby Larson for her “technical brilliance” and her “uncanny ability to communicate music directly to the heart of the listener,” she currently serves as the Professor of Saxophone and Music Theory at the University of South Florida while also maintaining a private studio. In addition, Dr. Weintraub is a performer-in-residence and the Director of Outreach/Communication for the Tampa-based Contemporary Art Music Project (CAMP), an ensemble dedicated to championing the works of living composers worldwide. From 2016 to 2018, she held the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Saxophone at Florida State University.

Her performing career has earned her numerous accolades, including first-place prizes at several international music competitions including the 2020 Matthew Ruggiero International Woodwind Competition, the 2014 International Saxophone Symposium and Competition (ISSAC), and the 2013 William C. Byrd Young Artist’s Competition. She has appeared as a soloist with the USF Wind Ensemble, the FSU Wind Ensemble, the Eastman Wind Ensemble, and the Flint Symphony Orchestra. A committed advocate for contemporary music, Dr. Weintraub has commissioned and premiered several new works for saxophone, two of which she debuted at the 2018 World Saxophone Congress in Zagreb, Croatia. From 2020 to 2024, she was the tenor saxophonist for the award-winning saxophone quartet “Project Fusion.”

Before returning to Florida, Dr. Weintraub earned her D.M.A. (with Performer’s Certificate) from the Eastman School of Music (where she studied with Chien-Kwan Lin), along with her B.M. and M.M. from the University of Michigan (where she studied with Donald Sinta). She is a Selmer Artist and performs exclusively on Selmer-Paris saxophones.
